Computer engineers are one of the hottest careers in the tech industry, with tech companies looking to fill up a shortage of people with the skills needed to keep up with the demand.
But some are finding it difficult to find a job in computer science or engineering.
Tech companies are also hiring a lot more people in those fields, especially with the number of people graduating from college every year increasing, said Jason Kish, a research analyst with the American Association of University Professors.
Kish noted that the tech world is more focused on jobs with a tech component than a general tech-oriented career.
He also said there is a growing trend of young people starting their own companies to compete with older tech companies.
While the trend is there, Kish said it can be hard to find positions for the people in the field.
He noted that there are more people who are doing computer science than computer engineering, which is why he thinks there are fewer opportunities in that field.
“The tech sector needs a big infusion of young talent, especially if it wants to maintain its foothold in this space,” he said.
Kishes analysis also showed that computer engineering is one of three majors where the unemployment rate is higher than in other majors.
The other two are computer science and engineering.
He said there are also a lot fewer computer science graduates than engineering graduates.
The industry is also experiencing a boom in software developers, who make up a large portion of the workforce.
Kansan Gavasilewski, the director of the American Institute of Certified Computer Engineers, said the tech-driven economy needs more people with computer science skills.
“As we enter the next decade, the demand for IT skills is expected to grow rapidly,” Gavasesilewsksi said.
“The current labor market is not working for people with these skills.”
Kish said he thinks it is time for a different approach to recruiting in computer sciences.
He thinks hiring is not the answer.
“It’s more important to be looking for the right candidate and not just looking for a job,” he added.
